What is Sandra Maria Viscon’s professional background?


Sandra M. Viscon is a Doctor of Nursing Practice and is board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Her healthcare career began in 1989 in the Emergency Department at Sun Towers Hospital, now Las Palmas Medical Center. Throughout her career, she has worked with emergency medicine, trauma medicine, urgent care, and patients of all ages. Her experience includes caring for severe emergency, trauma, and burn cases, giving her a unique perspective on patient care and management.

What is Sandra Maria Viscon’s educational background?


Sandra Viscon received her LVN certificate in 1993, followed by an Associate Degree in Nursing and RN credentials from El Paso Community College and the state of Texas. In 2008, she earned a Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner concentration from the University of Texas at El Paso. She later received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from UTEP in 2018.

How has Sandra Maria Viscon contributed to nursing education and emergency care?


Sandra Viscon taught trauma courses with the Trauma Education Team at Thomason Hospital, now UMC of El Paso, throughout the southwest region of Texas and in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. She also mentored new nurses and paramedics and worked with the Texas Workforce Commission to develop a Paramedic-to-RN bridge program in 2009. The program successfully graduated 20 RN paramedics, many of whom are now advanced practice nurses in the community. As a Director of Emergency Services, she continued developing education and protocols to improve the treatment and care of emergency room patients.

Sandra Viscon was selected as a Paso Del Norte Health Foundation Graduate Fellow. She continues to serve as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UTEP, where she helps mentor future nurse practitioners.
